Omar shared stories of his life, the Berber culture, and so much about the Amazigh people. He took us to the most special photo spots, historical sights, and restaurants, well off the trodden path of other tour groups. Omar looked after our every need, making us feel like family and treating our group of five female travelers like Queens. He answered our thousand (or more) questions, and he even introduced us to his sweet mother.
Second, our hotel in the mountains, Dar Blues, was absolutely exquisite. They welcomed us, kept us far more than comfortable, and gave us the respite we needed to continue our journey. Third, the desert. I cannot describe how quiet and soul stirring it is to travel by camel through the dunes to watch the sun set, then to continue to camp in the moonlight. Our Berber guide walked beside us, looking after his beloved animals, snapping a few photos for us, and looking after our happiness and safety. Fourth, those tents! The small Tiziri desert camp was completely intimate and luxurious. Meals were traditionally prepared and delicious. Fifth, the music!!! The owner and entire crew of Tiziri are musicians and play the desert blues. It’s absolutely meaningful and magical. They took the time to explain the lyrics of the songs and their meaning when we asked. Sixth, the stars. Want to feel the vastness of the Universe? Walk twenty feet from camp into the desert and look up. Seventh, the journey back. Just when our hearts were breaking because we had to leave, Omar filled them again with his wonderful way. We stopped for anything we needed, sang to the desert blues, and planned our return.

I cannot begin to describe the warmth, joy, kindness, and genuine hospitality of the entire staff at Tiziri Camp in the Sahara Desert. And there was no finer host, ambassador, and guide than Omar.

Our small group of five women - friends in our 50s - travelled to Morocco and booked the three-day trip from Marrakech to Merzouga. I was not sure what to expect from the trip, beyond the stunning photos of the desert camp and camel treks I had seen on Instagram, but it was so, so much more than this. Humming along to desert blues Amazigh (Berber) tunes in the car, we made our way with Omar through vast and stunning landscapes and over the Atlas Mountains with ever-changing topography.

On multiple stops along the route to/from Marrakech, Omar and others introduced us to local Berber history, art, rugs, architecture, crafts, music, and commerce. Regular stops for panoramic photos, lunch, and tea made the long journey enjoyable. The overnight at Dar Blues Hotel was also exceptional.

At Merzouga, we met our camel guide who carefully led us and the well-cared-for camels on a two-hour trek through the desert. After a breathtaking stop to watch the sunset, we arrived at the camp for a delicious dinner. Looking up at a dark desert sky filed with stars is a reminder of just how vast our universe is. And yet our big world becomes preciously small, sitting around the campfire hearing Ahmed (the Camp’s manager) and the staff drum, sing, play guitar, and speak of local Berber traditions and history. What a gift!

From start to finish, our small group was treated with such care and concern. It was an adventure I will never forget, and we are grateful to Omar and the entire Tiziri Camp staff for this incredible experience.

We are a group of 5 women in our 50’s traveling from the US & from the moment we were picked up from our Riad in Marrakech- we were treated like queens! Omar’s warmth & kindness immediately put us all at ease.

We left the city & traveled to the Atlas Mountains. The views are breathtaking!! We stopped every few hours to see sights, drink tea & take pictures. Not only did Omar make sure we were always comfortable- he also had a wealth of knowledge of Berber culture, history & music, so we learned a lot along the way! We had a gorgeous dinner & stayed the night at Dar Blues (HIGHLY recommended).

The next day we continued our journey. We requested a stop at a women’s rug cooperative where we were able to hear the history & process of Berber rug making & meet the women that make them- it was a truly special experience. We had a delicious lunch & a few more interesting stops, then continued on to the desert.

In the late afternoon we arrived in Merzouga, where we donned our head scarves & met our camels. We were led by Ahmed through the dunes as the sun was setting- it was truly magnificent. We were able to stop for about 30 minutes to see the sunset & take pictures. Honestly, the photos don’t even look real. We continued our journey and got to camp Tiziri just as it was getting dark.

From the moment we got to the camp, I felt like a movie star- the tents are beautifully appointed, the setting is not to be believed, the hospitality is second to none & the food (in the middle of the desert!?!) was so, so good. The whole experience was so personal- there were only 11 guests. I really felt as if the whole staff cared about my comfort & well being.

After dinner we gathered around the fire for traditional Berber music and mint tea & star gazing. We learned more of Berber history & culture- it was fascinating.

I still do not know how the shower could be so hot & the bed so comfortable in the middle of the desert- but, really, it was best night sleep of my whole trip. We woke to a Saharan sunrise, a wonderful breakfast & fond goodbyes. Even after just one night, we felt as though we knew the staff.

Our dear Omar came to get us & after a long day of travel, he delivered us back to our Riad in Marrakech. When we said goodbye to him, I felt like I was saying goodbye to a nephew or a friend.

I really cannot tell you how great the whole thing- from initial communication with Aicha to our final goodbyes- was. I’ve had the privilege of pretty amazing experiences around the globe- and this one, desert camp Tiziri, is at the top of the list. I am already scheming of how to come back with my whole family.

Steered us away from over crowded tourist sights and instead, led us to special places where we received the same family hospitality.
Our half way point accommodations Dar Blues were beyond belief and againthe most attentive staff and amazing food.
Once we reached the point where we were taken to our camels, the Tiziri staff were warm, friendly and we felt right at home. Our camels calmly led us through the most gorgeous dunes with magical scenery. There was a stopping point where we were able to explore the dunes and watch the sunset. Just beyond words.
Once at the camp, we were greeted and showed to our tentsplush and comfortable. Dinner was again wonderful. The best part was the drums, guitar playing, singing and sharing of the culture around the fire.
What an unforgettable experience!

We stayed... read more for 3 nights in February 2024. I would highly recommend a minimum stay of 2 nights, but 3 or 4 nights is really what you need to start to get the feel of the place.

We did the full day excursion to visit the local nomads. Amazing. And also the full day camel trek. Also amazing. And we enjoyed the special dinner on the sand dune. The best part of the excursions was spending the full day with someone who has lived in the desert their whole life and is happy to share their experiences and wisdom with you.

The food at the camp was the best we had in Morocco. The staff made us feel like family. As others have posted, the tents were great with hot showers and comfortable beds.

Pro tips: as above, book a 3 or 4 day stay plus BOTH the nomad excursion and the camel trek.

Ask the staff to have cold beer around before you stay. They normally do not stock it but are happy to get it for you, and they like it too!

As of Feb 2024 they are building 2 new family tents that will house up to 5 guests each. Their current 6 tents can each take 2 or 3 people.

  Dreamlike desert experience - Tiziri Eco Camp was an exceptional experience - I wish we could have stayed for days! The camp is beautiful, with rugs laid out over the sand as paths between... read more tents. The tents themselves are beautifully appointed with indigenous textiles and every detail considered. Despite being an eco camp that works very hard to conserve precious water, the showers were some of the best we've had on the whole trip, and the meals were phenomenal - we had a vegetable tagline of zucchini and goat cheese that was even more delicious than many of the meat dishes I've tried in Morocco. But the best part is the evening music around the fire! The camp manager is a desert blues guitarist and the rest of the staff accompany him on drums playing indigenous Amazigh songs. Some folks from a neighboring camp even trekked over the dunes after dark to join us because the music was so good. Really don't miss this place!

  Camel ride to luxury eco camp - We had a great stay at this luxury eco camp in the Sahara. They have a great environmental protection program. The tent was quite comfortably heated with a private bath. There food was excellent and wine was available by the bottle at dinner. After dinner all visitors sat around a fire and enjoyed the music that staff performed. In the morning we had an exciting ride out by 4 wheel drive vehicle roller coastering through the dunes.

The facilities are excellent. It’s hard to believe you’re in a desert camp. Clean, warm and hot water.

Our hosts really made it. Form their welcome, to dinner and through to the evening round the fire - I felt I had new friends and they genuinely care that you have the best experience.

Everyone joined in the music and telling stories , then stargazing - it was a magical experience.

We were up for the sunrise, then enjoyed a wonderful breakfast with lots of laughs and joy - we were sorry we had to leave. Even the drive back over the dunes was another wonderful experience with Yushow helping me understand much more about the way of life here.

I’d thoroughly recommend Tiziri Camp. Go with an open mind - you will leave with a full heart.

They even have heating in the camps which is a luxury compared to other sites where I've heard people freeze all night in the winter months. We had a nice and toasty room, it was lovely.
The fire and music was incredible and definitely something we won't forget. We have two small children, ages 4 and 6, and everyone treated them as if they were their own. They even had the chance to play and make friends with the owner's child and the much loved pup of the camp.
On our full day at the camp, Youssef took us around on a tour of the area and then we finished the afternoon with dune buggies and a sunset camel ride led by Hamid. Incredible. A desert sunset in something else entirely.
Mustafa took care of all of our needs at the camp and in the restaurant which serves a multi course meal for breakfast and dinner. Everything was delicious!
Our two night stay at Tiziri was the absolutely highlight of our trip to Morocco. While we are a Moroccan/American family, it was a new experience for everyone and one that we will cherish forever. We cannot wait to go back!

Our private driver/guide is Omar. He waited for us at Casablanca airport before our plan arrival (was delayed). As soon as we saw him, we like him. He is kind, warm, young and full of high energy who drive 7 hours in one day and 9 hours in another day without any complaints. He is also careful driver who constantly reminding us putting safe belt on. He brings water bottles for us every day. Now Omar is our dear friend and brother. He made our trip more than our expectations.

In Chefchaouen Omar brought us to a local restaurant where we enjoyed mixed fishes and sit on rooftop with beautiful view. We also took Omar’s suggestion for hiking to Bouzafer mosque at Sunset time and we got so many great pictures.

Our hotels booked by Best Travel Morocco are very good with warm breakfast included and two of them also included dinner and hotel staff are so warm, kind and helpful.

our most favorite and exciting stay is Tiziri Camp in Marzouga. Amed, our planner is also head of this camp. Riding a camel 1 hr through the desert and stayed for 40 min watching the sunset. It is indescribable moment in our lifetime.

Many thanks to our camel man Mohamed who walked with our group and camels and he is such decent and honest person. He found the cash fell out from my jean pocket and returned to me after we finished sunset watching.

After dinner, 6 staffs members played Morocco music and guests started dancing under starry sky. Such amazing and exciting night at Tiziri Camp is unforgettable moment.

In Tiziri Camp, we had a king size bed, shower and toilet. Heating inside room is good and also electrical heating blankets if you are still feeling cold.

Omar is the highlight of our trip to Morocco. We have invited him to join us for lunch a few times but he always politely refused. He is such wonderful person who consider guest’s need first and leave us private and relax time to ourself to that we greatly appreciate. Thank you so much, our brother Omar!

I signed up for the additional 4WD Desert Exploration and Tea with Nomads package, to tour the oasis of Merzouga, the village, visit the mining area, listen and see the nomads sing and dance, etc. for $100. Given the quality of the tour guide and the amount of time he spent on this tour, I can understand the cost of the tour. But the tour itself was all right. Some of it was staged and underwhelming. It was nice to see the "farm" where the locals grow fruits and vegetables, called the oasis. But not too different from farms I have seen in India, and elsewhere, other than what is grown at this site. We were touring the ruins the French mining companies had left behind. Not quite worth the cost and time for me particularly. But I was still fine with the experience and a wider perspective on the desert and desert life.

The rest of the experience was exhilarating. The dromedary ride over the dunes to a spot on the dunes to watch the sunset was an incredible experience. The tent and facilities at the camp were excellent. The food was incredible! The singing around the campfire was a memorable experience. The 4WD ride over the dunes was awesome. The sunrise over the desert. And the help provided to sandboard down a small dune was worth the experience. In all of this, the staff and their service was outstanding.

I would highly recommend the Tiziri camp to whoever wants to experience the Sahara desert and all that it has to offer.

It... read more is much longer but you truly are in the heart of the desert - it looks just like you see in the movies. On the shorter ride, you apparently are riding in the area where a lot of the jeeps travel, so it feels more crowded. I'm in my 60s and handled the long camel ride just fine. The camp itself is so clean and luxurious. I was traveling with my adult son, and they even gave us an additional tent at no extra charge, so that we would have more space. My son and I both agreed that the dinner we had was the best Moroccan food we experienced on our entire one week trip in Morocco. We also appreciated that you could purchase a bottle of wine to accompany the dinner. The staff is amazing and the Berber music at night was so soothing. Seeing the stars so clearly at night was such a highlight. Wish we could have stayed longer!
