Auberge Takojt, Ksar Merzouga, Morocco — GPS 31.114558, -4.008471. Open in Google Maps. The camp itself is only reachable via our own 4WD or camel guidance, so please follow our instructions rather than trying to self-navigate the final stretch.
Arrive at least two hours before sunset. We'll greet you at the kasbah, give you time to freshen up and park, and serve tea before a short 4WD ride to meet your camels (or a direct 4WD transfer, if you'd rather not ride).

The Camel Ride
About 2 hours from town to camp, with a stop on a high dune for sunset. Fully adjustable — tell your guide if you're tired or uncomfortable and a 4WD pickup arrives within 15–20 minutes. It must be reserved and confirmed at least a day before arrival; once confirmed, camels and guides are booked and paid, so late arrivals get a 4WD transfer instead (a later camel ride is still possible for a €25 per-person fee). Bring a scarf or hat, sunglasses, water, and sunblock — your overnight luggage travels to camp by 4WD.
Check-Out
Shower and breakfast after sunrise, then 4WD transfers back to town from around 9:00 AM (15–20 minutes each). Latest check-out is 11:00 AM — preparing the camp for new arrivals takes more than a normal hotel turnover.

Eco-Friendly Camp Guidelines
A few things that help us keep the desert the way we found it:
- All electricity comes from solar panels and batteries — please switch off lights and devices when not in use.
- European Type C & E sockets are available for phones, cameras, and laptops. Please avoid high-power devices like hair dryers.
- Water is precious here — please use it sparingly.
- Please don't flush toilet paper; use the bin provided. Our filtration system recycles bathroom water to irrigate the plants around camp.
- Keep tent doors closed and locked to keep sand and insects out.
- Leave shoes on the small carpet at your tent entrance.
- Insect screens let you keep windows open — please close them if there's a sandstorm.
- All shampoo, shower gel, and soap provided are eco-friendly and biodegradable.
Booking Through a Third-Party Platform?
Reservations made through booking platforms (e.g. Booking.com) do not include city tax & TVA (€4 per person, per night — payable on arrival) or the camel ride (€25 per person, reserved in advance). The camel ride is excluded from platform bookings so that the local camel owners are paid fairly, without a platform commission taken out. Both are included automatically when you book directly with us.
