The Camp

You step through a moon-shaped arch, and the desert changes. Lantern-lit paths, tea served on layered trays, and eight tents that took real craftsmanship to build.

Facilities

Comfort, Deep in the Sahara

En-Suite, By Hand

Every tent has its own en-suite bathroom — double-headed shower, flushing toilet, hand-painted ceramic sink. All the furniture, from headboards to carpets, was hand-made by local craftspeople.

Solar-Powered, Quietly

Mellow lighting throughout the camp runs entirely on solar power. No generators humming through the night — just lantern-lit paths between the dunes.

Comfort in Every Season

Every tent now has air conditioning and heating, alongside hot water and a romantic sitting area — real comfort through the Sahara's hottest days and coldest nights.

Natural, Not Synthetic

Tents are built from natural cotton and wool, not synthetic fabric. It costs more and lasts less — we think it's worth it.

The First Eco Camp in Merzouga

Restaurant

The Only Vegan-Friendly Kitchen in the Sahara

All ingredients are locally sourced, seasonal, and organic where possible. Vegetarian and vegan meals are available with advance notice, and we offer dairy-free milk alternatives — though not almond milk, since we care about the bees it takes to grow it. Dinner is served in an atmospheric candlelit setting; breakfast comes with the morning light over the dunes.

Fire & music

Staff, Hired Partly for Their Music

After dinner, the fire is lit and the drums come out. Tiziri doesn't book a musical act — several of our own staff are musicians, and the songs by the fire are simply part of who works here.

Sustainability

Eco by Practice, Not by Slogan

Some of what that actually means, day to day:

  • 100% of our electricity and water heating comes from solar panels.
  • The first camp in the area with an effective waste-water filtration system — built from natural materials.
  • Tents are made of natural fabrics; almost no single-use plastic on site except drinking water bottles.
  • All non-drinking water is sourced from our own well.
  • All furniture was hand-made by local craftspeople.
  • Kitchen scraps feed the camels — who belong to a local nomad family and roam freely between treks.
  • We support Imodda, an NGO for the children of desert nomads, with an annual drop of school items and clothes.
  • We organise an annual community litter pick in Erg Chebbi.
  • Biodegradable cleaning and bathroom products throughout.
  • Suggestion cards in every tent — recycled materials, genuine requests for guest ideas.
